I have been doing a big data course since January 2018. Here in Sweden, lab works/projects are some of the ways that students use to learn. Most of the courses that are being offered, always have practicals/lab works/assignments that accompanies them. It is done this way so that it will enable students to learn themselves and also understand the courses better. I personally feel it is a very good way of making students acquire more knowledge and do things in a better way. Some of these lab works can be really challenging and difficult. However, they have made me to learn a lot within a short period of time.

In my first masters, we used rapid miner for our data mining projects. It was a good experience for me even though I didn't document it😭but I enjoyed all the projects we worked on and I learnt a lot. This time around, I decided not to make the same mistake, so I will be documenting all the team projects we will be working on. This will help me in the future if I need to revise any of the projects, as I have a great interest in data mining. Aside that, I also believe that this piece will be useful for any newbie trying to lay hands on data mining projects.

So the first lesson is on how to install WEKA (a machine learning software to solve data mining problems) on windows & Mac OS X. Lets's dive right into it 👇👇👇

Part A: How to Install WEKA on Windows (I use a windows 10 OS)

• Unlike windows which had a lot of versions where you decide on the one that works best for you. Mac doesn't have that option, there was only one available version (March, 2018) which was what I downloaded.
• Furthermore, I discovered that the version (3.9) that I downloaded didn't require any manual installation process as windows. 
• A package that contained WEKA app and content folder was already inside the downloaded package.
• All I needed to do was to open the downloaded folder. Yes, it is that straightforward😉

• However, the WEKA page didn't launch😣 when I tried to open it. I got an "error" message.
• What then could be the problem and what did I do to solve this problem? All I did was to move the WEKA app into my macbook application folder.
• After completing that step, I was asked if I was sure that I wanted to launch WEKA. Of course, YES, I am so sure/ready😁 so, I Clicked "open" and that was just it💪

• The WEKA GUI Chooser interface is exactly the same as windows. After completing the installation process, you can start playing around with it. Fingers crossed that everything goes well for you as it went well for me.
