When it comes to quick and easy day trips from Calgary, Canmore always delivers! It’s that charming little mountain town that somehow manages to feel both exciting and peaceful at the same time. On our latest visit, we set out for Grassi Lakes, but like many of our adventures, it turned into a fun mix of mini-hiking, scenic detours, and relaxed exploring.
We started off with the plan to hike Grassi Lakes. Did we finish the full hike? Not quite 😅 but even a short walk on this trail is totally worth it.
The turquoise water, towering rocks, and mountain views were all breathtaking.
And just when we thought the scenery was the highlight, we spotted... goats 🐐! Yep, a whole crew hanging out by the roadside like they owned the place. My little ones didn't expect to see them, making it one of the highlights of our trip. Sometimes, the best moments on trips are the unexpected ones, right?
📝 Tip: If you plan to visit Grassi Lakes, go early! The parking lot fills up quickly. Even if you don’t do the full hike, just stopping by for a short walk and a scenic drive is worth it.
After our mini hike at Grassi Lakes, we made our way to the Policeman’s Creek Boardwalk. This spot is perfect for families, no steep climbs, no complicated trails, just a peaceful walk with mountain views and the sound of the creek flowing beside us. My kids loved spotting ducks and just running ahead while we enjoyed the crisp mountain air. It was the kind of quiet, scenic stop that made you appreciate the beauty of Canmore without breaking a sweat!
No trip to Canmore is complete without wandering through Downtown Canmore. The cute little streets, local shops, and cozy mountain-town vibe make it such a fun place to explore. We browsed through some of the shops, snapped pics, and enjoyed the cozy small-town vibe.
Of course, we had to stop at The Big Head, Canmore's famous giant stone head sculpture. It’s one of those quirky landmarks that you can’t help but take pictures of, and it was a nice, lighthearted way to wrap up our day.
Before heading home, we enjoyed a good lunch downtown, taking in the relaxed mountain-town atmosphere one last time. Sitting back after a day of exploring made for the perfect ending.
The drive back to Calgary was just as relaxing. My kiddoes napped the whole way home. Parent win 🙌. It’s always nice when the journey home feels just as calming as the adventure itself.
