It’s almost that wonderful time of the year—when Christmas magic fills the air, and our family outings become a little more festive! Last year, we decided to explore Heritage Park’s "Once Upon a Christmas" event, and it was the perfect way to kick off the holiday season. If you haven’t been, trust me, it’s a must-do in Calgary during the holidays!
Our Heritage Park Experience 🎅
Now, if you know me well, you will know that I’m probably more excited about Christmas activities than anyone in my family. My husband likes to joke that I’m just as eager (if not more) as the kids when exploring all things Christmas. So, off we went to Heritage Park, and from the moment we arrived, till we left it was all shades of festive mood with the lights, cozy fire pit, horse-drawn rides, and so much more
Family-Friendly Highlights ✨
We explored the Park as much as the weather permitted us. There was so much to do!
- Horse-Drawn Ride Adventure: Teni and Tade had a blast cozying up on the horse-drawn ride through the park. 🐴 Nothing says Christmas quite like it!
- The Christmas Market: We loved wandering through the festive market stalls filled with unique holiday finds. There’s something about Heritage Park's nostalgic feel that makes Christmas feel truly magical for families.
What We Loved 🎠
- Old-Fashioned Wagon Rides: This was the kids' favourite. Nothing says Christmas quite like cozying up on a horse-drawn wagon ride through a snow-dusted park. 🐴
- Cozy Fire Pit Moments: After the ride, we gathered around one of the fire pits to warm up, which felt so comforting. The kids loved cuddling up and watching the flames dance—a perfect pause in our festive adventure.
- Live Caroling in the Market: As we explored the market, we came across carolers singing festive music, adding such a warm, classic touch to the atmosphere.
- Picturesque Holiday Spots: We couldn’t resist stopping for pictures at some of the most beautiful spots around the park
Tips for a Smooth Visit 📝
For anyone planning to visit Once Upon a Christmas at Heritage Park, here are a few tips:
- Arrive Early: This event is popular, so getting there early helps to avoid crowds and gives you plenty of time to explore.
- Dress Warmly: Calgary winters can be chilly, but with layers and warm drinks from the park, you’ll stay cozy all day!
- Check the Schedule: There are timed events, so keeping an eye on the schedule will help you make the most of the day.
