Exploring Phenomena at TELUS Spark: A Mind-Bending Experience!

When art meets science, you get a mind-blowing experience—and that’s exactly what Phenomena at Telus Spark delivered! My sister and I decided to check out this immersive exhibition, and let’s just say, our minds were blown, our creativity sparked, and our cameras? Absolutely overloaded with snapshots of the magic! 📸✨ If you’re looking for a visually stunning and interactive experience in Calgary, then this one’s a must-see—but don’t wait too long, as it’s only around for a limited time!

That being said, today on the blog, I’ll be sharing about our visit—what we saw, what we loved, and why you should check it out too!

The Mirror Maze: A Mind-Bending Highlight

First on my list will be The Mirror Maze. This definitely stood out for me. Walking into this space felt like stepping into an endless labyrinth of reflections, with false paths and surprising dead ends that completely threw off our sense of direction. Every turn was an illusion, and escaping felt like solving a puzzle in a house of mirrors!

But the fun didn’t stop there! We also encountered other brain-teasing experiences that challenged our perception and balance.

🔹 The Floating Head Illusion – A table set up in a way that made it look like a floating head on a plate! I had way too much fun taking goofy pictures here. 🤣

🔹 The Photo Fun Zone – A section designed purely for cool and creative pictures! With different backdrops and angles, we had so much fun experimenting here with colours and perspective. 📷

🔹 The Vortex Tunnel – Have you ever walked into a room that made you feel like the floor was tilting? This exhibit here definitely played tricks on my equilibrium and even though you could loose your balance if you stick around for too long, I still loved it 😵‍💫

🔹 The Size-Changing Room – This was one of my favourites! My younger sister suddenly became bigger than me in this space which I guess is meant to mess with our depth perception. We took some nice pictures here as well which I absolutely love! 😂

🔹 The Gravity-Defying Living Room – This setup looked like a regular cozy space, but with a quick camera flip, it created the mind-bending effect of us climbing the walls! A simple yet super fun trick, made for some hilarious pictures 📸😊 🛋️🔄

🔹 The Shark Backdrop – Loved this photo spot! It looked like a giant shark had swallowed me whole, and the comments on my Instagram post were hilarious (by now, you should already know I love being fun and goofy)🦈😂

Interactive Fun: What We Loved About the Exhibit

We loved everything! PHENOMENA wasn’t just about looking—it was about experiencing. Every exhibit made us pause, laugh, and sometimes even doubt our own senses! If I'm being asked to summarize the experience, it would be the joy of simply being ourselves, getting lost in the fun, and embracing the child in us again. And the best part? Letting go, laughing endlessly, and immersing in the playful magic of PHENOMENA!

Photo-Worthy Spots: The Best Backdrops for Your Pictures

If you love capturing Instagram-worthy moments, this exhibition is a goldmine! Some of my favourite spots were:

📸 The glowing tunnel of lights

📸 The prismatic color-changing wall

& of course 📸 The Shark Backdrop

My Recommendations for Visitors
  • Best time to visit? Weekdays are quieter, making it easier to explore without rushing.

  • Who will enjoy this the most? Families, couples, content creators, and anyone who loves a mix of art and science.

  • What to wear? Something comfortable, but make sure your outfit pops in colorful lighting (neutrals or whites work great against the displays!).

  • Other places to check out? We also checked out the TELUS Spark’s Quantum Sandbox and VR area and they were definitely worth visiting!

Final Thoughts: Is Phenomena Worth It?

Absolutely! Whether you’re a fan of interactive exhibitions or artistic experiences, or just looking for a fun day out in CalgaryPhenomena is a must-visit. My sister and I had such a great time exploring, taking pictures, and just being in awe of the creativity behind each installation.

Have you been to PHENOMENA at TELUS Spark or any Museum of Illusions before? This is my second time experiencing it, and I highly recommend adding it to your list if you haven't! That will be all from me today. Thank you for stopping by my little corner of the internet today. Until next time… Xoxo 💋
