Memories from Our Bitter-Sweet Trip to Nigeria (February 2022)

Welcome back to #WemsCorner. On today's #BlogCatchUp series & final post for the year, I will be sharing a few pictures/memories from our bitter-sweet trip to Nigeria in February 2022.

Myself, my husband, and our babies went to Nigeria in February 2022 for my dad's burial & truly it was a bitter-sweet experience for all of us. Bitter because I didn't expect to go back home after 7 years for a burial and never to see my dad again💔. Sweet because I was able to reunite with a couple of my friends and family members. I don't always have the right words anytime I think about that short experience but amidst all, I'm thankful for the life he lived, the impact he made and the legacy he left behind.

Btw, this was my son's first time on an airplane

I have to say that the journey was one of the most stressful, emotional, tough, sad, and at the same time a lil' fun that we've ever made. My daughter still talks about her experience till date (this was herself and her brother's first time in Nigeria). I wish we had a longer time to explore and create beautiful memories with my kids, but unfortunately, that wasn't the right time for such. Although the trip was short and sad, we still managed to create a couple of memories and I will be sharing some of them today. Let's get right into it.

  • We landed safely at Murtala Muhammed International Airport & even though there were a couple of hiccups here and there, one thing that stood out for me was that they allowed people with little kids to check in fast. We had a different waiting line and it was pretty fast

  • My sweet friend, Ope got us sim-cards and dropped it off at the hotel where we lodged. This made our transition so smooth and we were able to communicate with our family members immediately. Thank you so much Ope, I love you. (btw, she did a million other things for me on this trip & I cannot even say thank you enough).

  • My babies lodged in a Nigerian hotel for the first time & we had a buffet breakfast the next morning. What stood out for me here was the breakfast. It was a good one to see food like yam & egg, pap & akara, rice & stew amongst others on the menu. My husband loved it but I didn't have a lot of appetite to eat. However, I loved the diversity in the Nigerian menu (btw, they had other food as well such as bacon, sausage, bread, etc)

Leaving our hotel and heading to Babcock

  • Babcock was the last institution my Dad worked at before he retired so it was a good one to be back there after a while even though it was for a sad reason. Again bitter-sweet experience.

  • I was born and raised inside OAU campus. It was also a memorable experience to visit with my family members and show them a couple of places. Our time was very short but we went back to the last house we lived at OAU quarters before we relocated to Ibadan.

  • Teni carried and held a chicken for the first time and she still talks about it till now. I honestly don't know where she got the courage to do that because I can't do that.

  • I took keke maruwa after a long time, visited the famous sky amala joint in Ibadan, drove around with my baby sister, shared our childhood albums and pictures with our kids, bought gala and fan yogo amongst others. Those were some of the fun memories that we had that I absolutely loved.

Btw, my daughter's skin glowed throughout our stay in Nigeria and I loved it for her 😂

The event was one week long so every day was busy and jam-packed with activities but at the end of the day, I'm happy we were able to make use of this time to connect with friends and family again, explore when we can, and just reminisce over the good times. Sadly it was a bitter-sweet experience but I'm a very thankful and positive person so, amidst all the sadness, confusion, bitterness, and anger, I have chosen to still be thankful, grateful and hope for the best.

I have to say a huge thank you to my darling husband for being my solid rock and a shoulder to lie on prior to the journey, during the journey, and even after. My son was just a little over a year old and it was stressful, to say the least. He was always there to support me, take over the needs of the kids, bathe them, feed them and even put Tade at his back just to soothe him sometimes💋. He has always been the best dad and husband to us but moments like these just make me to even appreciate and love him more. Thanks, baey, we see you and we love you 😘

That will be all from me today & from 2022. Thank you to you, yes you for always stopping by to read about all the beautiful memories I'm creating for my family. My aim was just to create and document beautiful memories with my little family because at the end of the day that is all we are here for & all that matters to me. To see that people are interested in this always brings me joy. Adulting has made me not to be as consistent as before but I will always be here as time permits. I hope you have an awesome 2023. Remember to be thankful and stay positive no matter what life throws at you. I will see you at the next one in 2023...💋
